Landowners interested in participating in the project should contact the Natural Resources Conservation Service in the county or parish where the land they wish to enroll is located. They may also contact the Mississippi River Trust.
Note: From the above link, people can select a state, then a county or parish, then a local service center.
Easement applications are accepted continually. Applications are ranked based environmental and economic factors. The application process can take 12-24 months.
NRCS staff will provide one-on-one support for your application and explain easement options (30-year or permanent).
NRCS accepts applications year-round and funding is provided through a competitive process. State-specific application ranking dates are set each year to evaluate applications for funding. Find your state’s ranking date. Link:
Ranking Dates | Natural Resources Conservation Service (usda.gov)
If you apply after the application ranking date, your application will automatically be deferred to the next funding cycle. Also, if your land is not accepted for enrollment in a given year, your application will automatically be considered in the next year’s funding cycle.
